“Kung malunggay ang super food ng Pilipinas, chia seed naman ang sa Australia.” The marketing person of chia Philippines said. Indeed. What else can a marketer say of its own product? It’s all good, nonetheless. I made my own research and so far there are no studies to rebut the claim and therefore, I’m one of those who fell in line to buy the product perhaps just to try it myself. With good food, I’ll risk my bucks.
The chia representative gave us a demonstration of how to prepare their product. It was so easy. With five tablespoon of the seed placed and soaked in a pitcher (2 litres, I think) of strawberry juice, it expanded and formed like a gelatinous substance. She placed it in small plastic containers and handed them to us to have a taste. The texture is likeable. I can chew the seeds and with the juices, it has a little sourness in flavour. I could imagine it as kiwi seeds or sesame seeds. It’s very nice.
Chia's market price is 750 pesos for a 250 gms pack, but they gave us a promotional price. It’s quite expensive so we further researched its commercial value in the US. We gathered that it is cheaper there, so I messaged my sister to inquire about it. She asked me particularly what I am looking for because what she knows were garden herbs. I told her I am looking for raw seeds.
Today, I drank one serving to test if it is really an energy booster. It failed because I am still sleepy after drinking it. Anyway, I didn’t expect much about it as a reliever to drowsiness because even coffee could not prevent me from falling asleep. “Wala talaga epekto iyan kung talagang batugan ang umiinom.” A co-worker commented. Ouch. Hahaha.
I have 250 grams for consumption. I guess I could better make an evaluation after I finish it all. I’ll keep this blog posted of any development.
